Warriors Named Conference Carolinas Women's Track And Field Runner Up

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took runner up in the second year in a row in the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championship on a beautiful weekend event on April 27-28.  The Warriors scored 123.5 points during the championship.


How It Happened

Track Events

100 Meters – The Warriors claimed second and third place in the finals of the women's 100 meters.  Amy Barton took second with a time of 11.99 and Lyric King finished in third with a time of 12.17.

200 MetersAmy Barton battled against Limestone's Zawadi Brown in the 200 meters.  However, Barton pushed passed to win the race in a time of 24.85.  Both Lyric King and Destiny Massey finished in the top eight for the Warriors.  King took fourth with a time of 25.49, and Massey was in fifth with a 25.96.

400 MetersDestiny Massey led the Warriors in the 400 meters with a third place finish with a time of 58.87.  Massey was closely followed by Shavon Fields with a time of 59.27.

800 Meters – Junior Hayley Singletary took fifth place with a time of 2:27.33.

100M Hurdles – In the 100 meter hurdles, freshman Chyna Campbell took third place with a time of 14.68.

400M HurdlesKeyanna Williams took sixth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.08.

4 x 100 Meter Relay – Southern Wesleyan push past the other teams to finish in first with a time of 46.27.  Their time makes them the seventh fastest team in the nation.

4 x 400 Meter Relay – Southern Wesleyan powered past the other teams in the field.  With an eight second lead over the Mount Olive team, the Warriors took first in a 3:52.79 final time.


Field Events

High Jump – Southern Wesleyan took third and fourth in the high jump.  Paige Peterson led the Warriors with a jump of 1.62 meters to take third.  Peterson was followed by Kiunah Fye in fourth with a height of 1.57 meters.

Triple JumpTierra Johnson took third in the triple jump with a jump of 11.16 meters on her first jump attempt of the afternoon.

Discus – Freshman Chyna Cannon led the Warriors.  Cannon's throw of 37.26 put her fourth place.

HammerKelsie Smith led the Warriors in the Women's Hammer throw.  Smith's throw of 45.38 allowed her to take second place.
