High Point, NC – Conference Carolinas announced the 2018-19 Women's Indoor Track and Field Preseason Poll on Friday with the University of Mount Olive Trojans leading the pack.
The University of Mount Olive Trojans took first in the 2018-19 preseason poll with 90 points and nine first place finish votes. The Trojans took first last year after collecting 236 points in the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships. Several ladies advanced to the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas where two ladies grabbing All-American honors in several events.
Southern Wesleyan followed Mount Olive in the preseason poll with 80 points and one first place finish votes. The Warriors finished in second place in the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track and Field Championship with 116 points. Last year, several of the ladies were named to the All-Region team after their performances during the 2018-19 campaign. Both Jami Lewis and Skylar Julian set new school records for Indoor Track and Field. Lewis set a new record in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:19.09 at the ETSU Invite, while Lewis set a new record of 8.77 at the Conference Carolinas championship meet.
Coming in behind the Warriors are the Limestone Saints with 75 points in the preseason poll. The Saints finished last season with 93.5 points in the championship meet. They were followed by the North Greenville Crusaders with 64 points in the poll. The Crusaders took fourth last season after recording 47.5 points in the Championship meet.
Wrapping up the 2018-19 Preseason Poll are the Converse Valkyries in fifth place in the poll with 56 points. Then came the Barton Bulldogs with 49 points, the King Tornado with 34, the Lees-McRae Bobcats with 34, the Belmont Abbey Crusaders with 32 and the Emmanuel Lions with 26.
Southern Wesleyan will open up the 2018-19 Indoor season on December 1 as the JDL Kickoff Classic in Winston Salem, NC. The Conference Carolinas Championship meet will be held on February 17.
