Winston-Salem, NC – Southern Wesleyan competed in their first meet of the year today in the JDL Kickoff Classic. The Warriors had several top 20 finishes during the first meet of the season, and Paris West set a new school record in the shot put.
How It Happened
60 Meters: A'Miracle Scott and Katrice Hunter each competed in the preliminaries of the 60 Meters. Scott took 28th with a time of 8.07 and Hunter took 46th with a time of 8.42.
400 Meters: Three Warriors competed in the 400 Meter finals. Lyric King led the pack with a 19th place finish and a time of 1:01.31. King was followed by Michele Beugre in 21st with a time of 1:01.56 and Kaitlyn Phillippo in 37th with a time of 1:06.89.
800 Meters: Two Warriors finished in the top twenty during the 800 Meters. Taylor Broadwell led the Warriors with a time of 2:32.60 to put her in 12th place. Broadwell was followed by Madison Lewellen in 16th place with a time of 2:36.59. Jami Lewis wrapped up the field in the 800 Meters, taking 21st with a time of 2:41.20.
3000 Meters: Maggie Rice led the Warriors during the 300 Meters as she took 11th with a time of 12:03.36.
Pole Vault: In the pole vault, Haley McLaughlin took 10th with a height of 2.75 meters.
Long Jump: A'Miracle Scott led the Warriors in the long jump as she jumped 5.36 meters to put her in 9th place. Mycherie Onwuzurukie also competed in the long jump for Southern Wesleyan and took 41st with a distance of 4.38 meters.
Triple Jump: Southern Wesleyan took 6th and 7th place in the triple jump. Zakiyah Jeter led the Warriors with a distance of 10.84 meters to put her in 6th. She was closely followed by Tierra Johnson with a distance of 10.79 meters.
Shot Put: Paris West threw a distance of 12.16 meters in the shot put to earn her a ninth place finish. Her 12.16 meter throw allowed her to set a new school record.
Weight Throw: Chyna Cannon threw 12.05 meters to put her in 14th place finish.
Southern Wesleyan will take a break during the holiday season, but will return to compete in the ETSU Invite on January 11 and 12. They will then travel to the University of South Carolina to compete in the Gamecock Inaugural on January 18 and 19.
