Columbia, SC – Southern Wesleyan competed in the Carolina Challenge with school records being broken by the Warriors in the 3000 meters and long jump.
How It Happened
200 Meters : In the 200 Meter Dash, Michele Beugre led the Warriors in the race, finishing in 48th with a time of 25.97. Beugre was followed by Mycherie Onwuzurukie in 51st place with a time of 26.05. In 65th place, Amanda Trapp finished with a time of 26.41.
400 Meters : Jami Lewis took 47th with a time of 58.74. Lewis was followed by teammate Amanda Trap in 58th place with a time of 59.88. In 65th place, Hayley Singletary finished with a time of 1:00.78.
800 Meters : Hayley Singletary led the Warriors in the 800 meters, taking 33st place with a time of 2:24.47.
Mile : In the mile, freshman Taylor Broadwell took 47th place with a time of 5:52.33.
Long Jump : Mycherie Onwuzuruike led the whole field in the long jump, besting several Division I competitors to take first place with a jump of 5.74 meters. Her jump set a new school record.
High Jump : In the women's high jump, Tierra Johnson finished in a tie for 12th place with a distance of 1.52 meters.
Pole Vault : Taking 13th in the pole vault, Haley McLaughlin vaulted 2.80 meters.
Weight Throw : Kelsie Smith led the Warriors in the weight throw with a throw of 13.77 meters to put her in 17th place. She was followed by teammate Chyna Cannon in 20th place with a throw of 13.02 meters.
Southern Wesleyan will next compete in the Samford Invite on February 8 and 9. They will then take part in the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championship on February 17.
