Warriors Set New School Records at Carolina Challenge

Columbia, SC – Southern Wesleyan competed in the Carolina Challenge with school records being broken by the Warriors in the 3000 meters and long jump.


How It Happened

Track Events

60 Meter Hurdles : In the 60 meter hurdles, sophomore Chyna Campbell took 25th place with a time of 9.28.  Skylar Julian followed Campbell with a time of 9.50.

60 Meter Dash : Lyric King took 24th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.96.  King was followed by Michele Beugre in 38th place with a time of 8.12 and Skylar Julian in 59th with a time of 8.44.

200 Meters : In the 200 Meter Dash, Michele Beugre led the Warriors in the race, finishing in 48th with a time of 25.97.  Beugre was followed by Mycherie Onwuzurukie in 51st place with a time of 26.05.  In 65th place, Amanda Trapp finished with a time of 26.41.

400 Meters : Jami Lewis took 47th with a time of 58.74.  Lewis was followed by teammate Amanda Trap in 58th place with a time of 59.88.  In 65th place, Hayley Singletary finished with a time of 1:00.78.

800 Meters : Hayley Singletary led the Warriors in the 800 meters, taking 33st place with a time of 2:24.47.

Mile : In the mile, freshman Taylor Broadwell took 47th place with a time of 5:52.33.

3000 Meter : Maggie Rice set a new school record in the 3000 meter as she took 18th place with a time of 11:01.80.  She was followed by Kyra Hood with a time of 11:21.85.

4x400 Meter Relay : Southern Wesleyan's A Team of Lyric King, Michele Beugre, Jami Lewis and Amanda Trapp finished in 12th place with a time of 3:57.53.

Distance Medley Relay : The Warriors took sixth as Kyra Hood, Hayley Singletary, Taylor Broadwell and Maggie Rice finished with a time of 14:05.25.


Field Events

Long Jump : Mycherie Onwuzuruike led the whole field in the long jump, besting several Division I competitors to take first place with a jump of 5.74 meters.  Her jump set a new school record.

High Jump : In the women's high jump, Tierra Johnson finished in a tie for 12th place with a distance of 1.52 meters.

Pole Vault : Taking 13th in the pole vault, Haley McLaughlin vaulted 2.80 meters.

Weight Throw : Kelsie Smith led the Warriors in the weight throw with a throw of 13.77 meters to put her in 17th place.  She was followed by teammate Chyna Cannon in 20th place with a throw of 13.02 meters.


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next compete in the Samford Invite on February 8 and 9.  They will then take part in the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championship on February 17.
