The Trojans of Mount Olive struck first in the afternoon match against the Warriors, but the Warriors quickly tied the game. Led by serves by Anna Hughey, the Warriors regained the lead by 9-5. From that point on, the Warriors wanted to show their control of the game taking the lead to 21-15. The Warriors took the first set of the after 25-16.
Southern Wesleyan struck first in the second set. However, the Trojans rallied to tie the game 1-1 and then to take an 8-6 lead over the Warriors. Kendall Vallancourt served the tying point as the Warriors challenged the Trojans to take a 10-9 lead. Vallancourt tapped the ball over the net to assist in giving them a 16-14 lead. Mount Olive was not finished, tying the set once again 19-19. Despite a diving save by Shelby Sheets, the Trojans were able to sneak a ball by the waiting Warriors to take a 21-20 lead. The Trojans were able to maintain their energy to take the second set 25-23.
Determined to regain the upper ground, the Warriors took an early 2-1 lead in set three. The Warriors energy growing they quickly took an 11-7 lead over Mount Olive. The University of Mount Olive was not through, however, battling back to tie the set 12-12. Sarah Hughey and the Warriors fought back to regain a 15-12 lead. A block by Hughey gives the Warriors the ability to take a 22-20 lead over the Trojans. Warriors take the third set 25-23.
Mount Olive strikes first, but the Warriors counter to tie the set 1-1. With the Trojans threatening, Katie Anderson assists in tapping the ball over the net to give the Warriors a 6-4 advantage, but the Trojans threaten and tie the match 6-6. On a fourth touch call on the Mount Olive Trojans, the Warriors pull ahead 9-8. The energy rising in the stands, the Warriors rallied to take an 18-9 advantage in the fourth set of the afternoon. An unsuspecting save by Milica Stamenic allows the Warriors to take a 24-13 lead. Warriors win 25-14 in the fourth set of the afternoon to win the match 3-1.
"It was great to end regular season play with a win at home today!" said Head Volleyball Coach Julia Reininga. She continued, "I'm proud of the team and how they have worked to improve each week!"
Annika Jones gains 36 assists and Anna Hughey and Milica Stamenic combine for 27 digs in the win for the Warriors. The Southern Wesleyan University Warriors record to 14-10 and 12-4 in Conference Carolinas competition. The University of Mount Olive Trojans become 10-18 and 5-20 in Conference play.
The win for the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors gives them a playce in Conference Carolinas Postseason play. The Warriors will take on the King University Tornados on Tuesday, November 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Southern Wesleyan University's Historic Tysinger Gymnasium.
