Wilson, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Barton Bulldogs in five sets on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors posted 55 kills in the loss. Olivia Johnson led the team with 19 kills, followed by Paige O'Connor with 16 and Kendall Vallancourt to 13. Junior Annika Jones posted 45 assists and senior Paige O'Connor led the team with two service aces. Southern Wesleyan posted 48 digs, with Katie Anderson and Shelby Sheets leading the team with twelve digs apiece. Annika Jones led the team with four blocks.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan attacked first in the match against Barton on a kill by Paige O'Connor. The Bulldogs countered, but attack errors allowed the Warriors to jump ahead to take a 3-1 point lead. The Bulldogs rallied to tie the set at three, but kills by Kendall Vallancourt and Olivia Johnson allowed the Warriors to shoot ahead to take a 10-2 point lead over Barton. Southern Wesleyan pushed ahead on kills by Paige O'Connor and Liz Kuntz to lengthen their lead to 20-10 over the Bulldogs. Barton fought back, but the Warriors won the first set 25-19.
Barton jumped out first in the second set to take a 3-0 lead. However, Southern Wesleyan countered to tie the set and then take a 10-7 point lead on kills by Kendall Vallancourt and Olivia Johnson. Kills by Paige O'Connor pushed the Warriors to take a 16-12 point lead. The Bulldogs countered, coming to within three points of the Warriors several times, but Southern Wesleyan won the second set 25-20.
Barton took the lead first in the third set, but Southern Wesleyan countered to tie. The Bulldogs would not go down lightly, pushing head to take a 7-3 point lead over the Warriors. Kills by Kendall Vallancourt and Olivia Johnson put Southern Wesleyan to four points behind the Bulldogs. Despite several kills by Olivia Johnson, the Warriors could not pull ahead as Barton won the third set 25-21.
Like the previous two sets, Barton took an early lead, but a kill by Paige O'Connor allowed the Warriors to tie the set. However, the Bulldogs pulled ahead on four consecutive kills to take a 5-1 point advantage over the Warriors. Kills by Annika Jones and Paige O'Connor brought the Warriors to 19-10 behind the Bulldogs. Despite Southern Wesleyan putting several points on the board, the Bulldogs won the fourth set 25-15.
In the fifth and final set, Barton jumped out with a 4-0 lead. Southern Wesleyan countered to come to 6-8 behind the Bulldogs on kills by Paige O'Connor, Kendall Vallancourt and Olivia Johnson. The Warriors rallied with kills by Paige O'Connor, Annika Jones and Olivia Johnson to come to 13-14 behind Bulldogs. Barton won the final set 15-13.
Southern Wesleyan will return home on September 29 to take on the Limestone Saints at 7 p.m. They will then travel to Converse to take on the Valkyries on September 30 at 2 p.m.
