Central, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan takes a 3-2 victory over the Emmanuel Lions on senior night.
The Warriors posted 52 kills in the victory over the Lions. Paige O'Connor led the Warriors with 18 kills. O'Connor was followed by Kendall Vallancourt with 12 and Olivia Johnson with 10. Junior Annika Jones boasted 44 assists in the victory. Southern Wesleyan posted five service aces, with Katlyn Von Ins leading the team with two. Katie Anderson posted 33 digs. Anderson was followed by Shelby Sheets and Anna Hughey with 11 digs apiece. Kendall Vallancourt led the team with three blocks.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan struck first on a kill by Kendall Vallancourt. They jumped ahead to 3-1 on attack errors by the Lions. However Emmanuel countered to tie the set. The set went back and forth several times, with one team pulling ahead and then the other team countered to tie. Southern Wesleyan pushed ahead on kills by Shelby Sheets, Paige O'Connor and Kendall Vallancourt to take their lead to 12-7. Emmanuel pushed forward, but Southern Wesleyan held them back to win the first set 25-22.
While the Warriors struck first in the second set of the evening, the Lions leapt forward to take a 3-1 lead. Emmanuel went on to score six more points to take their lead to 9-5. Kills by Paige O'Connor, Shelby Sheets and Annika Jones put the Warriors to come to two points behind Emmanuel and bring the score to 12-10. Despite a late rally by Southern Wesleyan, Emmanuel won the second set 25-19.
The Warriors took the lead first in the third set. Back-to-back kills by freshman Olivia Johnson allowed the Warriors to take their lead to 3-1. Southern Wesleyan took their lead to 8-4 on a service ace by Shelby Sheet. They lengthened their lead to 11-6 on kills by seniors Paige O'Connor and Kendall Vallancourt. The Warriors continued their surge and won the third set in a 25-15 final.
Like in the previous sets, Southern Wesleyan took the lead first on a bad set by the Lions. They increased their lead to 2-1 on a kill by Kendall Vallancourt. However, the Lions took a 4-2 point lead on a kill by Jessica Gray. The Warriors tied it at four, but the Lions would not let them take the lead as Emmanuel pushed their lead to 8-4 on a kill by Jenna Woodruff. Emmanuel continued to push and won the fourth set in a 25-17.
A kill by Kendall Vallancourt gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead to start the fifth and final set of the evening. However, Emmanuel countered with back-to-back kills by Julie de Blanck to give them a 2-1 lead. Southern Wesleyan would not go down quietly, taking a 4-3 point lead on a kill by Olivia Johnson. Kills by Paige O'Connor allowed the Warriors to take their lead to 7-5. The intensity on the court growing, Paige O'Connor delivered a service ace to bring Southern Wesleyan's lead to 10-6. The Warriors went on to win the fifth set 15-9.
The Warriors will remain at home on October 7 as they take on the Erskine College Flying Fleet at 2 p.m. They will then take on the Converse Valkyries on October 10 at 7 p.m. During the match, Southern Wesleyan will appreciate members of the SWU Faculty and Staff.
