Central, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan charges ahead to take a 3-0 victory over the Francis Marion Patriots on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors posted 40 kills in the victory over the Patriots. Paige O'Connor led the Warriors with 18 kills in the victory, including posting her 1,000 career kill as a Warrior. Junior Annika Jones led the Warriors with 35 assists. Three Warriors posted a service ace, and Katie Anderson led the team with 20 digs in the victory. Liz Kuntz led the team with three blocks.

How It Happened
Francis Marion pushed forward to take a 2-0 lead in the first set. A kill by Shelby Sheets and Paige O'Connor put the Warriors to 3-2 behind the Patriots. Southern Wesleyan took the lead on attack errors and a kill by O'Connor to bring their lead to 7-3. Francis Marion countered, but a kill by Olivia Johnson and a service ace by Annika Jones brought the Warriors lead to 11-5. Kills by Courtney Price and Olivia Johnson gave Southern Wesleyan a 19-11 point lead. Southern Wesleyan won the first set 25-21.
The Patriots took the lead first in the second set, and took their lead to 6-5 on kills by Lenee' Blot and Veronica Lane. Southern Wesleyan countered on a kill by Olivia Johnson to tie the second set 7-7. The Warriors and the Patriots fought back-and-forth, exchanging the lead several times, but Southern Wesleyan pulled ahead on kills by Olivia Johnson and attack errors by the Patriots to take a 23-18 point lead. A kill by senior Paige O'Connor gave the Warriors a 25-21 second set victory.
Southern Wesleyan surged to the lead in the third set of the afternoon on a kill by Liz Kuntz and service ace by Katie Anderson to take a 3-0 lead over the Patriots. Francis Marion countered to take a 6-5 point lead, however a kill by Courtney Price and ace by Paige O'Connor gave the Warriors an 8-7 point lead. Back-to-back kills by Paige O'Connor not only gave her 1,000 career kills as a Warrior, but also gave Southern Wesleyan a 16-11 point lead over Francis Marion. O'Connor went on to win the final set for Southern Wesleyan with a kill after a block error by the Patriots and give the Warriors a 25-17 point victory.
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Lee to take on the Flames on October 17 at 7 p.m. They will then travel to Erskine on October 20 at 7 p.m. and then Emmanuel on October 21 at 2 p.m.
