Southern Wesleyan Falls in Three to Lee

Cleveland, Tenn. – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Lee University Flames in a 3-0 final score.

The Warriors posted 28 kills in the loss with Paige O'Connor leading the team with 12.  Annika Jones led the team with 24 assists.  Of the Warriors four aces, Anna Martin posted two.  Martin went on to lead the team with 21 digs.  She was followed by Katie Anderson with 13 and Anna Hughey with 11.  Kendall Vallancourt led the team with two blocks.

How It Happened

Set One

The Flames took a 3-0 lead early before a kill by Paige O'Connor put the Warriors on the board.  Kills by Olivia Johnson put the Warriors to 6-3 behind the Flames.  Each time Lee push award, Southern Wesleyan countered to stay within three points.  However, the Flames won the first set 25-15.

Set Two

Lee struck first in the second set of the day, but a kill by Shelby Sheets put the Warriors to 3-1 behind the Flames.  Southern Wesleyan surged ahead on kills by Courtney Price and Paige O'Connor and a service ace by Anna Martin to take an 8-4 point lead over the Flames.  Lee countered to come within two of Southern Wesleyan, but a kill by Olivia Johnson gave the Warriors a 15-11 lead.  Despite having an early lead, the Flames leapt forward to tie the second set at 20.  Kendall Vallancourt and Courtney Price both delivered kills, but the Flames won the second set in a 25-23 final score.

Set Three

Like the previous two sets, the Flames took a 3-0 lead on back-to-back kills.  However, a kill by Paige O'Connor, service ace by Anna Martin and errors by the Flames gave Southern Wesleyan a 4-3 point lead in the third set.  Lee pulled ahead, but a kill by Paige O'Connor allowed the Warriors to tie the set at three.  Southern Wesleyan countered each of Lee's advances, taking a 9-7 lead on a service ace by Annika Jones.  Despite the Warriors challenging, the Flames won the final set 25-16.


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Erskine to take on the Flying Fleet on October 20 at 7 p.m.  They will then go to Franklin Springs, GA to take on the Emmanuel Lions on October 21 at 2 p.m.
