Due West, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan took the victory against Erskine on Friday evening in a 3-1 final score.
The Warriors posted 45 kills in the victory over the Flying Fleet. Paige O'Connor led the team with 18 kills. O'Connor was followed by Kendall Vallancourt and Olivia Johnson with 10 kills apiece. Annika Jones posted 36 of the Warriors 43 assists in the win. O'Connor went on to lead the team with two of the five service aces. She was followed by Katlyn Von Ins, Anna Martin and Annika Jones each with one service ace. Anna Martin led the team with 24 digs, and Katie Anderson followed her with 17. Seven Warriors posted a block in the victory.

How It Happened
The Flying Fleet took the lead early, but a kills by Annika Jones and Olivia Johnson brought the Warriors to 3-4 behind the Fleet. An attack error by the Flying Fleet's Kim Austin allowed the Warriors to tie the set, and then a service ace by Katlyn Von Ins gave the Warriors a 10-9 lead in the first set. Erskine was not done, pulling ahead to take a 15-13 point lead over Southern Wesleyan. However, kills by Olivia Johnson, Courtney Price and Paige O'Connor allowed the Warriors to take an 18-17 point lead. The Warriors fought hard to win the first set in a 25-22 final.
Southern Wesleyan jumped out early to take a 1-0 lead over Erskine on an attack error by the Fleet. The Flying Fleet countered to tie the set and then pull ahead on kills by Faith Grant to take a 3-2 lead. The Warriors fought back to tie the second set at seven on a kill by Olivia Johnson, and then a kill by Paige O'Connor gave Southern Wesleyan a 9-8 point lead. Both team battled back-and-forth, exchanging the lead several times. They Flying Fleet went on to win the second set in a 25-21 final.
The Warriors started strong in the third set with a kill by Paige O'Connor to give them a 1-0 lead. Like in the set before, the Warriors and Flying Fleet exchanged the lead several times. However attack errors and bad sets by the Fleet gave Southern Wesleyan an 11-8 point lead. A kill by O'Connor allowed the Warriors 13-8 point lead. The Fleet fought back, but kills by senior Kendall Vallancourt allowed the Warriors to take a 20-11 point lead. Southern Wesleyan won the third set in a 25-14 final.
Southern Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead, but Erskine countered to take a 4-2 lead over the Warriors. Kills by Annika Jones and Kendall Vallancourt kept the Warriors within two of the Flying Fleet and brought the score to 6-4. A kill by Jones went on to give the Warriors an 11-9 point advantage over Erskine. Seniors Paige O'Connor and Kendall Vallancourt delivered strong kills that allowed Southern Wesleyan to push their lead to 16-11. Kills by Olivia Johnson and Shelby Sheets allowed the Warriors to maintain a five point advantage and bring the score to 19-14. Southern Wesleyan won the fourth and final set 25-20.
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Emmanuel to take on the Lions on October 21 at 2 p.m. They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on October 28 in their final regular season home match of the season.
