Franklin Springs, GA – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Emmanuel College Lions in a 3-0 final on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors posted 41 kills in the loss to the Lions, with Paige O'Connor and Olivia Johnson leading the team. O'Connor delivered 15 kills and Johnson had 14. Annika Jones posted 32 assists and led the team with its lone service ace of the match. Southern Wesleyan posted 80 digs, with Katie Anderson and Anna Martin leading the team. Anderson posted 22 digs and Martin had 19. Courtney Price had three blocks. She was followed by Paige O'Connor, Kendall Vallancourt and Annika Jones, each posting two blocks in the loss.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan broke out first against Emmanuel with kills by Annika Jones and Paige O'Connor to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. However, the Lions tied the game at three and then charged ahead on a service ace and kill to give them a 6-4 lead. Kills by Shelby Sheets allowed the Warriors to regain a 10-7 lead. Their lead was short lived as kills by Jenna Woodruff and Julie de Blanck allowed the Lions to tie the set and then take a 13-12 lead. A kill by Olivia Johnson allowed the Warriors to take a 17-16 lead. The set went back and forth, with the Lions gaining control to win 27-25.
The Lions broke out early, but a kill by Paige O'Connor and attack errors gave the Warriors a 4-1 lead over the Lions. Emmanuel charged ahead, taking a 6-5 lead over Southern Wesleyan. The Warriors tied the set and then pulled ahead on kills by Paige O'Connor to take a 12-11 lead. The Warriors rallied late, but the Lions won the second set 25-19.
Emmanuel took the lead first in the third set, scoring three points before a kill by Kendall Vallancourt allowed the Warriors to put one on the board. Southern Wesleyan rallied back on kills by Olivia Johnson and Vallancourt to take a 5-4 lead over the Lions. Like the first set, the Lions and the Warriors exchanged the lead several times, forcing the set to go longer than the twenty-five set point victory. The Lions pulled ahead, winning the final set 27-25.
Southern Wesleyan will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on October 28 at 12 p.m. They will then travel to Limestone on October 31 to take on the Saints at 7 p.m.
