Aiken, SC – Southern Wesleyan won their final match of the USC Aiken Opening Weekend Tournament against Johnson C Smith in a 3-1 final.
Southern Wesleyan recorded 43 kills in their final match of the USC Aiken Opening Weekend Tournament. Sophomore Olivia Johnson led the Warriors with 13 kills with Davis Hendricks following her with six kills. Annika Jones recorded 20 of the 39 assists to lead the team. The Warriors posted three aces during the match with Katlyn Von Ins leading the team with two. Von Ins went on to lead the team with 15 digs. She was followed by Katie Anderson with 14 digs. Southern Wesleyan had 20 blocks with Danairi Malave posting eight.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan took the first point on an attack error by the Golden Bulls. Kills by Danairi Malave and Davis Hendricks allowed the Warriors to take a 4-2 point lead. Johnson C Smith countered to tie the game on an attack error. The Warriors and the Golden Bulls exchanged the lead several times before a kill by Darby Sheets put the Warriors on top 7-6. Johnson C Smith took the lead, but a kill by Courtney Price allowed the Warriors to tie it back up at nine. A kill by Katie Anderson and an attack error by Johnson C Smith allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to 15-13. Back-to-back service aces by Katlyn Von Ins allowed the Warriors to take their lead to 19-13. The Warriors went on to win the first set 25-21.
An attack error by Johnson C Smith allowed the Warriors to take an early lead in the second set. Kills by Katie Anderson and Davis Hendricks put the Warriors on top 6-0. The Golden Bulls countered to score a couple points, but a kill by Annika Jones put Southern Wesleyan's lead at 10-4. Kills by Katie Anderson put the Warriors lead to 19-10. Back-to-back kills by Katie Anderson and Courtney Price gave the Warriors their second set victory in a 25-16 final score.
Johnson C Smith took the first point in the third set, but a kill by Sarah Stone allowed Southern Wesleyan to counter and tie the set at one. A kill by Katie Anderson and then a ball handling error by the Golden Bulls allowed the Warriors to take a 4-2 lead. Anderson delivered another kill to push the Warriors lead to 7-5. Johnson C Smith pulled ahead, but the Warriors pulled ahead with kills by Sarah Stone and Olivia Johnson to make the score 13-11. The Golden Bulls countered to take a 20-16 on a service ace by Gorana Bogdanvic. Errors by the Golden Bulls allowed the Warriors to tie it 24-24. Johnson C Smith won the third set in a 27-25 final.
The Warriors put the first point on the board in the fourth set, but the Golden Bulls quickly tied the set and then took a 3-1 lead. A kill by Olivia Johnson allowed Southern Wesleyan to come to 4-2 behind Johnson C Smith. Southern Wesleyan fought back with a kill by Katie Anderson to put the Warriors down 7-8. The Warriors would not let the Golden Bulls take it easily with a kill by Courtney Price to make the score 8-11. Kills by Olivia Johnson and Davis Hendricks and a service ace by Sarah Stone allowed Southern Wesleyan to tie the fourth set at 14-14. Southern Wesleyan pulled ahead on a kill by Katlyn Von Ins and attack errors by the Golden Bulls to put the score at 20-17. The Warriors went on to win the fourth set in a 25-21 final score.
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Montgomery, Alabama as they compete in the Auburn University at Montgomery Tournament on August 31 and September 1. The Warriors will then take on Clarke Atlanta on September 7.
