Montgomery, AL – Southern Wesleyan took down the LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians in the final game at the AUM Tournament on Saturday in a 3-0 final.
The Warriors delivered 30 kills in the second win of the season. Olivia Johnson led the team with eight kills. Johnson was followed by freshman Darby Sheets with seven kills. Annika Jones and Maggie Jones led the Warriors in assists. Annika Jones recorded 13, while Maggie Jones had 11. Southern Wesleyan recorded 12 service aces in the victory with Maggie Jones leading the team with four. Anna Martin led the team with 15 of the 47 digs.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan broke out early with a kill by Darby Sheets to take a 2-0 lead over the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen. Two more kills by Sheets allowed the Warriors to lengthen their lead to 4-2. A kill by Annika Jones and a service ace by Anna Martin pushed the Warriors lead to 6-2. Southern Wesleyan kept the pressure with kills by Katie Anderson and Sheets to take a 10-6 point lead. A kill by senior Davis Hendricks allowed the Warriors to take their lead to 22-9. The Warriors went on to win the first set on a service ace by Annika Jones 25-10.
Southern Wesleyan took the first point in the second set, but LeMoyne-Owen quickly countered to tie the set 1-1. A kill by Annika Jones push the Warriors lead to 3-1. The Warriors lengthened their lead to 6-2 on kills by sophomore Olivia Jones. A service ace by Maggie Jones and back-to-back errors by the Magicians allowed the Warriors to push their lead to 9-2. Kills by Ashlyn Holford and Davis Hendricks put the Warriors on top 13-3. Southern Wesleyan continued to pressure LeMoyne-Owen with kills by Olivia Johnson and Katie Anderson to give them a 20-4 advantage. Southern Wesleyan won the second set on a service ace by Annika Jones to make the score 25-7.
The Magicians struck first, but a kill by Darby Sheets tied the set 1-1. The Warriors pushed ahead on a kill by Ashlyn Holford and a service ace by Holly Richardson to give them a 5-3 lead. Southern Wesleyan took a 7-4 point lead on kills by Olivia Johnson and Ashlyn Holford. A service ace by Katlyn Von Ins took the Warriors lead to 14-6, and then the Warriors took it to 18-8 on kills by Danairi Malave and Darby Sheets. Southern Wesleyan went on to win the final set 25-14.
The Warriors will next take on the Clark Atlanta Panthers in the Emmanuel College Tournament on September 7. Southern Wesleyan will then play their first Conference Carolinas match of the season on September 11 as they travel to Gaffney, South Carolina to take on the Limestone College Saints.
