Warriors Fall To Lions

Franklin Springs, GA – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Emmanuel Lions in their second Conference Carolinas match up of the season in a 3-0 final.

The Warriors recorded 25 kills in the loss to the Lions.  Katie Anderson led the team with seven kills.  She was followed by Olivia Johnson with six.  Annika Jones recorded all 22 of the Warriors assists in the loss.  Southern Wesleyan posted one ace by Maggie Jones.  The Warriors had 29 digs during the match with Katie Anderson boasting eight.  Sarah Stone led the team with two of the four blocks.

How It Happened

Set One

Emmanuel jumped out early in the first set, but a kill by Katie Anderson allowed the Warriors to cut their led to 2-1.  The Lions would not be stopped as they pushed to a 5-3 point advantage.  Kills by Olivia Johnson allowed the Warriors to come to within three points of the Lions and made the score 7-10.  Despite kills by Davis Hendricks and Olivia Johnson, the Lions won the first set 25-13.

Set Two

Southern Wesleyan countered in the second set of the evening with a kill by Katie Anderson to put them on top 1-0.  Kills by Annika Jones and Olivia Johnson allowed the Warriors to maintain a 4-3 point lead over Emmanuel.  The Lions tied it back up on a kill by Julie de Blank, but an ace by Maggie Jones and kill by Davis Hendricks allowed the Warriors to come back on top 9-7.  Despite a well-placed kill by Darby Sheets, the Lions rallied back with several kills to take a 15-10 point lead over the Warriors.  Southern Wesleyan continued to put on the pressure, but could not come out on top in the second set as Emmanuel won 25-21.

Set Three

The Lions took a 1-0 lead on a kill by Jenna Woodruff to kick off the third set , but seconds later a service error allowed the Warriors to get on the board and made the score 1-1.  A kill by Darby Sheets and attack errors put the Warriors on top 4-2 in the third set.  Emmanuel countered to take a 5-4 point advantage, but a kill by Sheets tied the set at five.  Despite kills by Katie Anderson, Olivia Johnson and Davis Hendricks, the Lions charged ahead to win the final set 25-12.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Erskine to take on the Flying Fleet on September 22 at 2 p.m.  They will then travel to Tigerville, SC to take on the North Greenville Crusaders on September 26.
