Warriors Unable to Pass Flying Fleet

Due West, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Erskine Flying Fleet in a 3-0 final on Saturday afternoon.

Southern Wesleyan recorded 17 kills in the loss to Erskine.  Senior Katie Anderson led the team with seven.  Anderson was closely followed by Sarah Stone with six kills.  Annika Jones posted 14 of the Warriors 16 assists.  Holly Richardson and Anna Martin each recorded a service ace.  Martin went on to lead the team with 11 of their 42 digs.  Stone post two of the four blocks in the loss.

How It Happened

Set One

The Flying Fleet charged out early in the first set, scoring six consecutive points before a service error put the Warriors on the board.  A kill by Sarah Stone put the Warriors behind the Flying Fleet 2-9.  Despite kills by Katie Anderson and Olivia Johnson, Erskine shut down all of Southern Wesleyan's attempts to win the first set 25-11.

Set Two

Erskine took an early lead, but a kill by Sarah Stone allowed the Warriors to cut their lead to 3-5.  The Flying Fleet continued to distance themselves from the Warriors, but a kill by Davis Hendricks put Southern Wesleyan down 7-15.  Despite several attack errors by the Flying Fleet, Erskine won the second set 25-16.

Set Three

The Flying Fleet took a 2-0 lead in the final set before Southern Wesleyan got on the board.  Kills by Olivia Johnson and Katie Anderson allowed the Warriors to cut the Flying Fleet's lead to 4-6.  Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge the Fleet with a kill by Annika Jones and service ace by Holly Richardson to make the score 13-23.  However, Erskine won the final set 25-17.


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Tigerville, SC to take on the North Greenville Crusaders on September 26.  They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium where they will host the Limestone Saints on September 28 and the Converse Valkyries on September 29.
