Central, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan secured their first conference win of the season against Converse College on Saturday in a 3-0 final.
Southern Wesleyan recorded 35 kills in the win. Sophomore Olivia Johnson led the Warriors with 15 kills with Davis Hendricks and Courtney Price following her with six kills apiece. Annika Jones recorded 30 of the 34 assists to lead the team. The Warriors posted nine aces during the match with Annika Jones and Katie Anderson leading the team with three apiece. Anderson went on to lead the team with 22 digs. She was followed by Anna Martin with 13 digs. Southern Wesleyan had four blocks in the win.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan struck first in the match against Converse with a service ace from Olivia Johnson. Converse quickly responded and gained an early 6-2 lead. The Warriors trailed until a kill from Johnson put them up 12-11. The score went back and forth before the Warriors went on a run with a kill from Darby Sheets and attacking errors from the Valkyries to put the Warriors up 22-17. Southern Wesleyan got the ball back on a kill from Johnson and went on to take set one 25-21.
The Valkyries jumped out quickly in set two and took an early 5-0 lead. The Warriors chipped away to narrow their lead and came out on top with back-to-back service aces from Katie Anderson and kills from Olivia Johnson to lead 13-10. Both teams battled, and the Warriors were able to increase their lead with kills from Johnson and Davis Hendricks to lead 22-17. Southern Wesleyan went on to win the second set 25-18 with kills from Olivia Johnson and Courtney Price.
The Warriors struck early with tough serving and service aces from Annika Jones to lead 5-1. The Valkyries didn't back down and tied it up 9-9 before an ace from Johnson put the Warriors back on top. The Warriors went on a 5-point run with another ace from Annika Jones and a kill from Hendricks to increase their lead to 16-10. Kills from Davis Hendricks and Darby Sheets kept the Warriors rolling and put them ahead 21-17. Converse tied it up 24-24 before a kill from Olivia Johnson and a Valkyrie error allowed the Warriors to win the third set 26-24.
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Converse College on October 3 to take on the Valkyries at 7 p.m. The Warriors will remain on the road to face the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on October 5 at 7 p.m. and the Lees-McRae Bobcats on October 6 at 12 p.m.
