Warriors Fly Past Erskine

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Erskine Flying Fleet in a 3-0 final on Friday evening.

The Warriors recorded 34 kills with Darby Sheets leading the team with 11.  She was followed by Olivia Johnson with eight and Courtney Price with seven.  Annika Jones led the team with 30 of the 33 assists.  Southern Wesleyan delivered 11 service aces with Annika Jones leading the team with four.  Jones was followed by Olivia Johnson with three and Katie Anderson with two.  The Warriors recorded 47 digs with Anderson posting 20 and Johnson posting 10.  Courtney Price led the team with three blocks.

How It Happened

Set One

The Erskine Flying Fleet jumped out first with a kill by JoJo Taylor, but the Warriors countered on an ace by Katie Anderson and kills by Darby Sheets and Davis Hendricks to put the Warriors on top 7-3.  Southern Wesleyan continued to push ahead with kills by Olivia Johnson to take a 13-8 point advantage.  The Flying Fleet pressured back, but the Warriors maintained the advantage with kills by Courtney Price and Olivia Johnson to win the first set 25-19.

Set Two

Southern Wesleyan jumped out early in the second set with kills by Darby Sheets and Courtney Price to take a 5-1 lead over Erskine.  Attack errors by the Flying Fleet allowed the Warriors to take an 8-1 point advantage.  Kills by Annika Jones and Courtney Price and three service ace by Olivia Johnson allowed the Warriors to take a 17-6 point lead.  The Warriors went on to win the second set 25-17.

Set Three

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead on an attack error, but the Flying Fleet countered seconds later with a kill by Reilly Bartlett.  The Warriors regained the lead on a kill by Darby Sheets.  The Flying Fleet countered, but kills by Davis Hendricks and Olivia Johnson and an ace by Haley Martin allowed Southern Wesleyan to tie the game 6-6.  The Warriors pushed ahead with kills by Olivia Johnson and Annika Jones to take a 10-6 point lead.  Southern Wesleyan continued to shut down Erskine's threats with aces by Annika Jones to take a 23-11 point advantage.  They went on to win the game 25-13.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on October 13 as they take on the Emmanuel Lions at 2 p.m.  They will then travel to Bristol, Tennessee on October 19 as they take on the King Tornado at 7 p.m.  The Warriors will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium as they host UNC Pembroke on October 23 at 6 p.m.
