Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the UNC Pembroke Braves in a 3-1 final score.
The Warriors recorded 40 kills in the loss to the Braves. Davis Hendricks led the team with 15 kills. Hendricks was followed by Olivia Johnson with 12 kills. Annika Jones recorded 34 of the 40 assists. Both Haley Martin and Johnson had two aces. The Warriors posted 70 digs with Katie Anderson leading the team with 20. She was followed by Annika Jones with 14 and Olivia Johnson with 12. Both Hendricks and Danairi Malave had three blocks.

How It Happened
The Braves broke out early with kills by Aquia Jones to give them a 2-1 advantage over the Warriors. However, kills by Sarah Stone and Davis Hendricks allowed the Warriors to tie the first set 4-4. UNC Pembroke continued to push ahead, but Southern Wesleyan countered with kills by Hendricks and Darby Sheets. The Braves went on to win the first set 25-18.
UNC Pembroke took a 2-0 lead early, but the Warriors fought back to cut their lead to 5-3 with kills by Davis Hendricks and Olivia Johnson. A service ace by Courtney Price allowed the Warriors to tie the set and then errors by the Braves put the Warriors on top 8-6. UNC Pembroke continued to fight back with several kills, but the Warriors countered their every point. Despite kills by Olivia Johnson and Darby Sheets, the Braves won the second set 25-20.
Southern Wesleyan broke out early in the third set with a service ace by Haley Martin and kills by Davis Hendricks and Olivia Johnson to take a 3-0 lead. The Braves challenged back, but kills by Johnson and Danairi Malave put Southern Wesleyan on top 7-5. Davis Hendricks put down kills to allow the Warriors to take a seven point lead and make the score 13-6. Southern Wesleyan continued to dominate the third set with kills by Hendricks, Katie Anderson and Courtney Price. A kill by Olivia Johnson allowed the Warriors to win the third set in a 25-15 final.
The Braves fought back in the fourth set, taking an early 2-1 point advantage, however kills by Olivia Johnson and Darby Sheets allowed Southern Wesleyan to take a 4-3 point lead. The set went back and forth with the Warriors and the Braves exchanging the lead. However, kills by Davis Hendricks and Olivia Johnson allowed the Warriors to take a 10-8 point advantage. UNC Pembroke regained the lead on a service ace by Shannon Skryd. The Warriors continued to pressure the Braves with a kill by Courtney Price to tie the set 19-19. Despite several kills by the Warriors, the Braves went on to win the final set 25-22.
Southern Wesleyan will remain at home as they host Homecoming on the October 26 and 27. The Warriors will take on the Barton Bulldogs on October 26 at 7 p.m. They will then take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 2 p.m.
