Pembroke, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the UNC Pembroke Braves in a 3-0 final on Tuesday evening.
The Warriors posted 32 kills in the loss with Courtney Price and Olivia Johnson leading the team with nine kills each. Annika Jones recorded 22 of the 28 assists. Johnson led the team with two of the three service aces. Southern Wesleyan posted 46 digs, with Katie Anderson leading the team with 19. The Warriors had 13 blocks. Price led the team with three blocks.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan jumped out early with a kill by Danairi Malave, however the Braves countered with a kill by Aquia Jones to tie the set up 1-1. Kills by Olivia Johnson and Courtney Price and an ace by Johnson allowed the Warriors to take a 6-2 point advantage over the Braves. A service ace by Annika Jones and a kill by Darby Sheets allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to 9-2, however UNC Pembroke fought back with service aces by Anna Heinz and kills by Amber Tyndall to put them down 11-9. Despite kills by Sheets and Johnson, UNC Pembroke was able to tie the first set up 15-15 on a kill by Tyler Fitzpatrick. The Braves continued to push ahead and went on to win the first set 25-21.
UNC Pembroke jumped out early on a kill by Shannon Skryd, however kills by Olivia Johnson and Courtney Price put the Warriors on top 4-2. The Braves tied it up 4-4 on kills by Ashley Caesar and Savannah Bean. A service ace by Raven Oates and kills by Shannon Skryd put the Braves up 9-7. Southern Wesleyan fought back to tie it up 10-10 on a kill by Davis Hendricks, and then took a 12-10 point lead on kills by Olivia Johnson and Hendricks. UNC Pembroke countered to tie it 16-16 on a kill by Aquia Jones. The Braves continued to push ahead to win the second set 25-19.
A kill by Ashley Caesar put the Braves up 1-0 in the third set. However, a kill by Olivia Johnson allowed the Warriors to take a 3-1 point lead over UNC Pembroke. The Warriors continued to push ahead on attack errors by the Braves. UNC Pembroke challenged, but kills by Courtney Price and Sarah Stone allowed the Warriors to keep the set close and make the score 11-11. The Braves took the lead, but the Warriors continued to challenge with kills by Sarah Stone. However, UNC Pembroke won the final set 25-20.
Southern Wesleyan will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on November 3 as they close out regular season play against the North Greenville Crusaders at 1 p.m.
