Warriors Drop Conference Match to the Crusaders

Central, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan fell to the North Greenville Crusaders in a 3-0 final on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors produced 27 kills in the loss on Saturday afternoon. Olivia Johnson lead the team as she recorded another double-double on the season registering 10 kills and 11 digs. Amber Bass followed Johnson with six kills. Of the Warriors 48 digs, senior Anna Martin led the team with 12 digs. Katlyn Von Ins chipped in eight and Jesse Soles added seven. Darby Sheets had 23 assists on the afternoon and the team came up with four blocks.

How It Happened

Set One

North Greenville jumped out with a 6-0 run to kickstart the contest. Amber Bass would respond with a kill to put the Warriors on the board. The Warriors would go on to make a 7-0 run of their own to trail 10-9. Ashlyn Holford, Olivia Johnson, and Bass would chip in kills to tie it at 14-14. An impressive string of points for the Crusaders would allow them to take a more comfortable lead. Johnson and Bass threatened the lead with kills but the Crusaders would escape set one with a 25-17 win.

Set Two

Johnson attacked first in set two to start the momentum for the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan took a 5-4 lead as teams traded possessions back and forth. The Warriors led 9-6 before North Greenville would take three straight points to tie the set. The Crusaders picked up several points that came from a mix of kills and SWU errors. A kill from Katlyn Von Ins would send the Warriors in a 5-0 run. A kill from Bass would tie the set at 20-20. Despite a kill from Johnson, the Crusaders were able to take set two 25-21.

Set Three 

The Crusaders opened up set three by taking the first two points. Back-to-back kills from Johnson would put the Warriors on the board. Southern Wesleyan would take a 7-5 lead before the Crusaders regained a 11-7 lead. Sarah Stone and Bass attempted to break the Crusaders momentum, but North Greenville would take a 25-15 set three win to secure the match victory.

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will travel to Franklin Springs, G.A. on November 15 to play the Emmanuel College Lions at 7 p.m. They will then host their final match of the season on November 16 at 12 p.m. They will host the Erskine Flying Fleet for Senior Day.
